ReVamped: Stars and Stripes

July 3rd, 2012

This weeks ReVamped series inspired image is Baron Von Lind’s Stars and Stripes. We loved the composition with the American Flag. I did need some help from our in house designer Nickel Baby Studios.

It seemed appropriate this week since it is the fourth.

ReVamped Little Queenie at Horseneck Beach and Sayles Mill Photo Collabrative

June 20th, 2012

This week Revamped session was with the amazing model Queenie at Horseneck Beach Westport, Ma.

This session was inspired by photographer and model Bunny Yeager.

Born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S. Yeager became one of the most photographed models in Miami. After retiring from modeling, she began her career behind the camera. She met Bettie Page in 1954, and took most of the photographs of her that year.[1] Along with photographer Irving Klaw, Yeager played a role in helping to make Page famous, particularly with her photos in Playboy magazine.[1] Yeager is also credited with discovering the model Lisa Winters.[citation needed] Following Page’s retirement, Yeager remained a successful photographer. She took the well-known still images of Ursula Andress on the beach in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No, and discovered many other notable models.[1] In 1968 she played the role of a Swedish masseuse opposite Frank Sinatra in Lady In Cement.[1]

When I first started to really photograph Pin- up a few years ago in my searches I had come across Bunny Yeager’s website.

At the time was was still working. I had ordered a many of her books and they all came signed. How amazing and what an inspiration. I still have her business card in a place or honor in my studio.

For more images and movie from this session Check out the Vintage Girl Studios Blog or The VGS Facebook page.

Vintage Girl Studios’ Cotton Club ReVamped

June 11th, 2012

This week’s Vintage Girl Studios ReVamped Session was inspired Harlem’s Cotton Club.

The Cotton Club was a famous jazz music night club located in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City which operated from 1923 to 1940, most notably during America’s Prohibition Era lasting from 1919 to 1933. The club was a white-only establishment even though it featured many of the greatest African American entertainers of the era including Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Adelaide Hall, Count Basie, Bessie Smith, Cab Calloway, The Nicholas Brothers, Lottie Gee, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker and Ethel Waters. During its heyday, the Cotton Club served as a hip meeting spot featuring regular “Celebrity Nights” on Sundays which featured celebrity guests such as Jimmy Durante, George Gershwin, Sophie Tucker, Paul Robeson, Al Jolson, Mae West, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, Eddie Cantor, Fanny Brice, Langston Hughes, Judy Garland, Moss Hart, and New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker, among others.

Rita Hayworth ReVamped

May 24th, 2012

This week’s Vintage Girl Studios ReVamped session is Rita Hayworth.

Rita Hayworth (born Margarita Carmen Cansino; October 17, 1918 – May 14, 1987) was an American dancer and film actress who garnered fame during the 1940s as one of the era’s top stars. Appearing first as Rita Cansino, she agreed to change her name to Rita Hayworth and her hair color to dark red to attract a greater range in roles. Her appeal led to her being featured on the cover of Life magazine five times, beginning in 1940

Where have I been!

April 15th, 2012

I know  have not been blogging on this site but that is about to change. Vintage Girl Studios has been such a  success that it has almost taken over my studio. So much so that I have limited the weddings I do per year.  Now that the new studio has been completed and VGS is moving in the direction I hoped for, some real thought and attention will be going into updating this site.  This will be starting weekly. I have started a New Facebook Page  for KHP where I will be adding images weekly.  I have added a 2010 and 2011 to the wedding gallery on this site. Keep posted for more images here!!

The Historic locations include: The Lippitt House Museum, Providence, RI; HearthSide House, Lincoln, RI; The Quonset Air Museum, Quonset, RI; and The Corinthian Hall, Boston, MA.

Vintage Girl Studios (VGS) offers professional photography studio sessions that transform women into classic visions of themselves from past eras. Professional hair and make-up stylists help perform this transformation and assist clients in choosing vintage-inspired clothing for a personal photo shoot. Krzystyna Caldarone, VGS’s owner and photographer, began her Creative Sessions series in May, 2010 as a way to expand her art to create new classic images in historic locations.

Krzystyna has also produced online short movies of all the Creative Sessions series in order to capture her process. They are all on the VGS website.

None of images from this exhibition are for sale. Like a true portrait artist Krzystyna works on a commission from her clients.
